Sargassum cinereum J.Agardh

Characteristics

Plants with short, stout main axis, bearing terate, smooth, primary branches at their upper part, beset with secondary branches and branchlets; basal leaves membranaceous, oblong, about 2.5 - 3 cm long, 7 - 8 mm broad, rounded at the apices and dentate at the margins; leaves of the branchlets lanceolate, 2 - 2.5 cm long, 3 - mm borad, cuneate at the base. Vesicles spherical, about 4 mm diameter, obovate, rounded, usually mucronate at the apices, subcylindrical below.

Distribution : Malvan, Ratnagiri, (Maharashtra). Goa, Karwar, Honawar, Bhatkal (Karnataka), Kerala.

Ecological status : Intertidal zone
